Q.How do we effectively identify market penetration levels?
A. One excellent way to gauge sales performance expectations is to understand market penetration levels. We find that many companies do not sufficiently understand how well they are penetrating their market. This is particularly true when establishing sales quotas for their distributors.
Ideally, a manufacturer would be able to measure market penetrations for each territory or market. It is important not to over complicate the process. First, break down the market to the lowest element – the actual customer. Rate each for potential and then for penetration levels. We prefer a simple RED – YELLOW – GREEN indicator for each penetration level. If you can show this on a map, you will have an effective visual to quickly identify market opportunities.
